Kids are ready to go to their new homes at approximately 12 weeks old. By this time they are weaned off their mums, eating hay and goat feed (we feed Heygates Goat Mix), and are vaccinated and wormed.
We are very happy to advise you on caring for your new goats.
Keep them in a secure pen initially. Ensure they have comfy dry bedding, fresh water, hay in a rack and some toys - tables, logs or equivalent for climbing and playing on.
A stable or similar is an ideal first home. They will take a few days to adjust to their new surroundings and new people. When you are confident they have settled in you can begin letting them out into their outdoor space.
They may be timid and take time to become friendly with people. They are reared by and bonded with their mums. As with all animals, this the best, healthiest, most natural start for them and we do not want to interfere or change this. We do handle them and spend time with them but, for many kids, when they are young they prefer goat company to human company. Spend time with them. They are naturally very inquisitive and nosey. Sit quietly in the corner of their pen reading a book. Sit with them when they are eating their goat mix and, in time, they will let you stroke them while they eat. Their confidence will grow over a few weeks and as they mature. Once you have won them over they will love you forever!
